Logitech Webcam Software For Mac The largest manufacturer of - and arguably the best webcams made - are from Logitech. A few years back they released Logitech web camera software Mac OSX Yosemite, Mavericks, Leopard. It's technically not 'Driver' software, OSX handles that with the system-level support for UVC compatible cameras. It's more a webcam capture application Macintosh users can install to perform HD still image and video clip capture control. It gives more usability out of some of the more recent UVC compliant Logitech HD webcam models for which they specifically offer OSX support. Newer webcam models that aren't currently mentioned on Logitech's support page (like the C525, C920 and other HD cameras) DO NOT work with this capture application.

The app is hard-coded to detect only specific camera models. All cameras mentioned and linked above are USB Video Class webcams and the driver itself is part of OSX for basic functionality. Logitech's OSX web camera control software features still image capture and video recording in Standard and High-Definition Widescreen modes at various VGA and HD resolutions - in compressed or optionally uncompressed format for iMovie imports. Why you want it: Many older OSX video chat and capture programs can't or have a hard time taking full advantage of HD 720 and 1080 resolutions. Logitech's Mac webcam software handles capturing clips at the 16:9 wide aspect ratio and HD modes far more intelligently. What it doesn't do: It lacks image adjustment controls - leaving all focus, color, brightness and white balance to Logitech's built-in camera hardware. Logitech Webcam Control App For Macs If you're tunning OSX 10.7+ and own a more recent Logitech HD camera like the 930e, 922 or ConferenceCam, you should download a newer app for camera pan, zoom and tilt and image adjustment functions of a C930e in any video-aware Mac app. It does work with a range of Logitech cameras, but it depends on the model as to which adjustments are supported. It was quite a challenge for Mac webcam drivers to recognize all the different manufacturers, image sensor hardware and vendor/product ID codes - and just as much of a challenge to document Macintosh compatibility with over 400 different models from dozens of manufacturers. IOExpert Drivers For Older Macs In the early days prior to the UVC - USB 2.0 Video Class - standard, helped select models of web cameras function under OSX and OS9. Before UVC compliance took hold, a wide variety of USB 1.1 speed cameras with varying webcam chipsets and sensors made it difficult to support Macintosh. But IO experts stepped in and tried to support as many cameras as they could.
Great suggestion, bobwillwy! For other readers, if you have not already bought a webcam, consider bobwilley's suggestion to use theMac-compatible (and lower-cost).
However, for users who already have the Logitech 920, as demonstrated in, the 920's Hi-Def and other functions works if you add software. Note that Hi-Def frame rates and audio syncing issues can occur. CPU power, data bus speeds, and/or video card limitations, especially in older or slower Macs, may give less than perfect results when attempting to deal with the huge data processing requirements of full 1080 HD. I bought the Logitech C920 from Best Buy without realizing it was not stated as Mac compatible.

Only listed Windows. So never opened the box. Ordered the Logitech C930e from Amazon as it stated Mac compatibility. Installed the C930e and the video flickered and the audio was sub-par and it wouldn't run through my powered USB hub. So after seeing this post I opened and installed the C920 and it work GREAT and runs through my hub!
I simply use it for FaceTime with family. FYI - I am running a 2013 rMBP with a DELL U2713HM Display. Showbiz11 wrote: The Logitech software is interfering.stops when the Logitech software is removed. Many third-party (non-Apple) software apps cause conflicts for some, but not all, users.
You cleverly discovered the right workaround for your problem! For benefit of other readers, Mac-compatible USB cams will work with your Mac without adding any third-party software provided that you are using OS X 10.4.9 or later. I never even install the third-party software when I plug in a new camera. The unique functions advertised by the third-party will not work without adding the software, but Mac-compatible third-party camera will provide all normal functions of Apple software that uses a camera. The benefit of this limitation is that you will not be bothered by the interference showbiz11 encountered.

It is available in the Mac App Store (MAS) from ' Mactaris ', an independent Mac OS software developer. A look at the MAS Customer Ratings for Webcam Settings shows great satisfaction from most users. Those that need an alternative third-party add-on might want to consider, which is available directly from its developer and has offered user-controllable functions to Mac camera users for many years.
